Post subject: | Mancini - BURIED! |
I don't see a thread mentioning Henry Mancini's birthday yesterday, so I'll start this one by saying that.. Yes, a fair amount of fun Henry Mancini music is buried in the dvd of PETER GUNN that I saw. I had fun listening to the episodes to hear not only the stuff he recorded on the albums, but the stuff that's not, too. (A lot of the stuff in there is fragmented stuff, so I can see why he re-recorded.) Just the best-est moment was at the beginning of the episode "Lynn's Blues," where actress Linda Lawson since "The Meaning of the Blues," to one of the sweetest Mancini arrangements* (I just love arrangements for small stage-bands, especially those done by Mancini and Raksin), featuring a dreamy opening trombone solo** that makes my toes tingle. *I assume it's Mancini's arrangement because of the solo writing. **Let's just say that if there was a trombone-solo-equivalent of Guy Madison, then this is it! |
