Once again, thanks to everyone for their assistance. I ordered it from the Film Music Society, and it came already! Quite an ear-full! Like everyone else, I've read of Herrmann's reactionary manner, but it is quite an experience to hear it "live", especially for nearly an hour! Yet through it all, you get to know a man who is basically a decent guy. He cared so much about the state of music and the arts, and despaired of the eroding standards (and hated the people responsible for it). I daresay most of us probably feel the same way he did -- he was just a lot more vociferous about it! I wonder what he would make of the state of films and film music today. |
