My first exposure to this tune was a track, THE TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON on a lovely old Dot LP titled "Backgrounds for Brando" conducted by Elmer Bernstein. I think the cue was credited to Saul Chaplin. "Backgrounds for Brando" was re-issued on CD by a Spanish label a couple of years ago (Blue Moon BMCD 7014) so it should still be available. The most stunning use of the tune is surely Jerry Goldsmith's sudden use of it near the end of MACARTHUR. - JMM. |
