Some years ago I went to the trouble to find a music box with a film music tune in it. I found I could order a mechanical musical element alone with any tune the manufacturer had done already.
I don't remember what tunes I saw when the clock shop owner showed me the catalog (except "Lara's Theme" from DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, which I think was in every freaking music box I ever opened as a child), I ended up buying David Raksin's "Laura." I still have it and it is my ambition to find a real box for it someday. Just this weekend, I also saw a mechanical musical element for Henry Mancini's "Pink Panther Theme."
Do you own or have you seen any others? (While I'm sure we can put just about any tune in an electronic musical element, I'd like to hear about mechanical ones you've encountered.)
