I'm sure it was a bitter pill for Jerry Goldsmith when Patton won in every catagory it was nominated for...except Best Score. 
Its true tho, scores tend to win on the basis of the film's popularity -- Chariots of Fire and The Lion King spring to mind. And one has to admit, even excellent scores, like Ben-Hur, The Lion in Winter, Schindler's List, etc. are still mainly coasting on the the overall quality and popularity of the films. |
