It's a little amazing to hear all this. I'm all for less expensive CDs – don't get me wrong – but SPELLBOUND isn't like most of the wonderful things that we get from Intrada or FSM. SPELLBOUND's been recorded expressly for the purpose of entertaining us. Members of this film music forum (and others) are its primary target audience. And Intrada has proven many times that it knows its audience as well as or better than most.
If I have to pay a little more for their attempt at giving us the best possible product from a proven entity, so be it. I don't live in the United States, and U.S. customers often forget that international customers (and there's a lot of us, BTW) pay a premium for U.S. product anyway. As others have said, no one's twisting our arms to buy it.
I don't have an unlimited budget – but neither does Intrada. The vast majority of what they do – releasing music that's been recorded by someone else, and re-mastering that music to a higher level of sonic quality – isn't like what they're doing with SPELLBOUND. After so many wonderful surprises – gifts, really, considering the enormous mountains that have been moved to clear their release – are we that base that we're going to begrudge such a generous and responsive company of a few extra bucks to cover their costs? Or rather: do you, the film music fan, want more of these wonderful things? Perhaps bickering over numbers smaller than the price of a Starbucks latte isn't the best use of bandwidth.
