I was watching Howard Hawks' ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS last night (which I've always enjoyed alot) and loved Dimitri Tiomkin's main title theme to the film. The thing is I wish there was more score in the film! Some of the flying sequences for example could have used some exciting Tiomkin music, maybe even a little undescore for Cary Grant and Jean Arthur's relationship. Just my opinion, of course. So... I'm curious to know what other films have minimal score that could use more music? (in your opinion, of course) Matt |

I always wished Elmer Bernstein had written more music for HUD. The four short cues there now are so effective I can only wonder about the impact of having more cues elsewhere. Then again, maybe one of the things that makes this movie so great is it's sparse use of original score to begin with! --Doug |

Yeah, I suppose it's easy to add too much icing to the cake. Then again, I can't imagine THE SPIRIT OF ST.LOUIS without all that great Waxman music! (as I've expressed in the other thread on that topic) Matt |
