Intrada Soundtrack Forum

Not so sure about this, as most of Intrada's customers are well-versed in soundtrackdom and it's unlikely they'll buy a compilation. From a business standpoint (as much as I hate thinking from a business standpoint!) it would probably be a risky affair.

Why not post that under their feedback section?

Compilations are NOT satisfying as listening to them is like eating a meal via the all-you-can-eat appetizers table.
All you can have is a three minute taste and then you have to hunt down the rest of the music of wait for the eventual album release that may never come.

I purchased a GODZILLA CD, which to my horror turned out to be a compilation of several Godzilla films.
On it was this fantastic theme by Masaru Satoh which I had to hunt down via purchasing several FUTURELAND release Godzilla score albums.
I did find the correct score and it was a very satisfying find.... in fact I found that very disc at the old INTRADA store on Vallejo street.

TERROR OF MECHA-GODZILLA

I don't tend to like compilations that at of original soundtrack recordings. What I do like are compilations that were actually recorded as such, ie. I can hear and appreciate some human effort that was put into the CD.

A compilation of original soundtrack main titles only requires the lawyers to agree the tracks and someone with a computer to burn the master. A re-recording compilation brings something new to the table as well.

For example, I like the Telarc compilations but dislike the Varese 25th anniversary ones. The original Silva Screen compilations are great too (even when the playing quality wasn't so good in the olden days) but when they repackage them (and do compilations of compilations) I stay away. But those releases aren't aimed at me anyway.

In honor of the John Scott thread we've got going here, one fantastic compilation is the Varese "Screen Themes" album with Scott conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It's an interesting amalgam of selections, but the performances and Mr. Scott's conducting are top notch.

That John Scott album from Varese is wonderful,featuring stellar performances from Kamen's Die Hard and Barry's Masquerade from the composer.
