And I use the word "composition" very, very loosely.
Well, a friend of mine is doing short films at university, and because he knows that I am into soundtracks and sing (therefore appearing to have musical knowledge), he asked me to "write" the music for one of his projects. It's a very talk-y movie about the elation and disappointment love can bring into our lives, and his instructions were: "Poignant, sad and quiet."
Hee!
Well, I found myself some simple notation program, got myself some paper, found a piano where I could "klimper" away on and, well, above is the very first idea, called "Empty Words". A very simple idea for piano in the minor key, which both includes the main thematic cell (not a theme by any stretch of imagination), which becomes more chordal later on. And a "bassline", first ascending, then kinda stagnating. As of now, it's only 25 seconds long, and I guess I'll be able to eventually make a four-and-a-half piece out of it. Who knows...it's just a bit of fun.
Now, my only worry is that this comes from something I've picked up before, but don't remember having picked up...
Maybe I will orchestrate this piece for solo guitar and win an Oscar, like my idol Gustl.
Well, John Williams, now's showtime!
Have a nice evening,
