I received this a couple of days ago. Wonderful!!! I am a HUGE fan of Goldsmith's recording, and it is so fresh and exciting to now hear a different take on the music. Usually it takes me a little while to warm up to recordings that are different than what I am used to listening to, but this is definitely an exception. It really feels like I'm coming home to the genuine 2001 score. Marvelous stuff! |

Well, I've always said that truly great music lends itself to re-interpretation. It's just odd that we got to hear the Jerry Goldsmith re-interpretation first this time around. And, make no mistake, I think that Varese disc is great, from start to finish. I don't know if I like this one better or not...yet. This one is in mono, true, but it's a great and enthalling version of North's music. And it's well worth getting! As I get older, I find myself more and more attracted to North's music. I don't know why that is, but as Emperor Franz Josef said in Amadeus, "Well, there it is, then!" |
