The "problem" is that formats such as Audio DVD and SACD actually do have much to offer and do feature impressive sound, yet you won't notice the difference on most home sound setups (or if you basically just listen to pop music), even if you have a SACD player. Because having a player is just one part of the equation, you also need corresponding amps and speakers.
In fact, once you're at a certain point in your home stereo setup, the most crucial element are the speakers.
