One thing I understand a little differently than you guys is that Stallone assisted in re-working the ending NOT to ensure a sequel but to deal with the original late sixties story wrap-up suggesting there was little hope for returning vets beyond suicide or something similar. Stallone felt the message by early eighties standards should be more positive. I did read the book - which was excellent and I did see the picture when it first opened... which I also admired. And the score remains one of my top five Goldsmith works of all-time.

I'm not pointing fingers, but it never ceases to amaze me how stubbornly people refuse to see things that contradict their own accepted view of the world. Applies to just about any subject, really.

Wow! What a stunning release. Thoroughly enjoying the improved sound. It now borders on the stunning transparency of Twilight's Last Gleaming. Congrats to Intrada for really putting the effort in on this release. The production values are truly wonderful. I thought the original album was good but this full presentation is something else. And I love the pop version. That would be great in concert. It's strange how the pop tempo does not spoil the theme. Much like JG's Hour of the Gun opener.

I cannot begin to understand what you know or have heard, but it seems to me that you cannot separate intention from result.

Stallone's intent was not commercial or exploitative in nature, and from what I remember of that speech, served very well as a reminder to the uninitiated like myself of what these guys went through for their country.

To be blunt, however, any movie or TV production that presents any sensitive matter in some way exploits the subject matter for financial gain.

It is the price to pay if such sentiments and ideas are to be expressed freely.

Just another tip of the cap here. I'm finally listening to this release and am blown away by the sound and expanded production. I'm very, very happy to have "double dipped" on this soundtrack...this is spectacular.

Looking forward to what 2011 at Intrada has in store for us...

First Blood is my all-time preferred film and score! Today i am listening this incredible new edition of this masterpiece!!!What improvement!! Thank you Intrada....the best film music label together with FSM!!!

I received only yesterday my copy of this 2CD set and I have been happy in finding many little, previously unreleased, pieces of music. And I am happy with the additional bonus material, too …

Well, I dreamed and wanted for years that piece of music on CD as it came in the movie … But now I found those about 38” of the Nam theme assembled with the instrumental end credits (wich are unused!) while there are TWO vocal versions of “It’s A Long Road” on the release, and none of them start with the mentioned introduction!

Sorry but I am very disappointed. Please, is there some “technical” reason why you did not assemble those two cues as they are in the movie, in that great, memorable final sequence of First Blood? :cry:

Much angst emanates from UninvitedGuest recently. Wonder who he is? Did he get jilted by one of Mr. Fake's family members or something?

That would go a long way toward explaining his tone.

This release is so marvelous! And the "technical” reason" is obvious. The composition is finally heard as it was meant to be without that strange edit from the old album. And the version in the movie was simply done by the editor...
