A very nice batch with two highly sought-after deluxe editions, two sensible Encore reissues, and a previously unreleased 70s Goldsmith score.

There isn't one disc in this announcement I didnt want, and some that I've really wanted for a very long time.

THE ENCORES: I do hope to be able to catch up to the original score tracks of The Boy Who Could Fly someday, but in the meantime I have no editions of this score and so the re-release of this recording is welcome at least to myself. Man On Fire has been out of print since the early Paleozoic era and has one of Scott's most beautiful melodies (which is saying something).

THE DELUXE EDITIONS: Nobody thought they'd see Die Hard 2 any time soon, and here it is, complete and everything. It's a shame about the missing sessions for Enemy Mine, but it's a epic science fiction score and the expansions are quite welcome.

THE RED PONY: Acclaimed Goldsmith score that has never been released ever.

This batch was certainly evidence against "fat and lazy," that's for sure.

But it's an unexpectedly good batch. We haven't seen one of them since a very long time...
I'm taking The Boy Who Could Fly (I have the film version but the re-recording is gorgeous), Die Hard 2 (monumental action score old school style ! We don't hear this in today's movies anymore...) and Enemy Mine (because it's a major Jarre and a classic SF movie) !

Jerry Goldsmith was so versatile that his hardcore fans never agree unanimously on which works constitute a masterpiece. However, from what I recall of viewing it in the 1980s, the RED PONY score was excellent. And since the original ENEMY MINE is one of a small number of items that somehow got lost in transit when I moved five years ago, I get to plug that gap with an upgrade! (What a timely release on the heels of that thread here about the Blu-ray and iso track.)

So a Varese batch with two titles to pluck is enough to delight me!

I have to re-watch the Next Karate Kid DVD one of these days. It's a shame all the action was cut from the album...

Nice, very nice batch indeed!

Ordered all five of them. I could not resist. I am already looking forward to their 35th anniversary next year. Let's see what they have in store for us.

May be they paused a bit for the big bang(s) in 2013;-)

Very nice batch.....fat batch so to speak :-)

I ordered 4 of the 5, and yes this batch was a very pleasant surprise. I don't think I've seen one disparaging remark about this batch yet. How rare is that?!

The Boy Who Could Fly, Enemy Mine and Man on fire are almost sold out, in one day.
Once again Varèse has fed the secondary market. Where Intrada and Lalaland evolve with "on demand" limitations and higher number of copies, Varèse still stucks with 1000 copies for some high profile soundtracks like The Boy Who Could Fly (easily one of the finest film scores of all times in my opinion and the first commercial release of this score since its initial release in 1986).
