one of these:

JARRE
PREVIN
BARRY
LEGRAND
HAMLISCH
ROSENMAN
GORE
BACHARACH
BRICUSSE
MORODER
MENKEN
SHORE

but I doubt the more famous ones get the "side B" treatment...

I recieved my copy of THE HINDENBURG today...color me very impressed!

I've never seen the movie, or heard a note of this music before today. It was David Shire's name that sold me the disc, and he certainly didn't disappoint. That main title theme--gorgeous! Absolutely gorgeous!!!

And the rest of the disc isn't exactly chopped liver either. Heck, if it was, it'd still be worth getting the thing for the main title, but the rest of the music is well worthwhile, too.

The movie? Well, it's a Robert Wise film, so I know it'll be worth seeing. So it'll go straight to the top of the NetFlix queue!

Great job, guys!

Could be Horner - two (=multiple) Oscars, even if they are both for TITANIC....

Actually the currently in-print CD of THE TAKING OF PELHAM 123 isn't quite the complete score. Missing is a small atmospheric musical gem that accompanies the scene where the hijackers change clothes late in the film, and then Robert Shaw shoots Hector Elizondo. Also, the FSM CD that is currently available is actually SHORTER than their first pressing. The very first version presented the cues separately - 20 tracks, with dry sound, as it is in the film. Later, they repressed and repackaged the CD and - at Shire's suggestion - they combined some of the cues, eliminating some very short sections of music, resulting in an album of 11 tracks. They also added reverb to this second pressing, which makes the orchestra sound bigger. The original dry-sounding 20 track edition is now rather hard to find.

The "Hindenburg" has landed! All praise to the mighty Zeppelin! :D

Please do NOT read this as a complaint: I was wondering if the music for the St. Elmo's fire sequence was included in any of the tracks? I haven't spotted it yet - I've only had the chance to listen to the thing once, dammit. I can see why Shire would've left it off when he put the album together way back when as none of the rest of the score has that kind of pluck-iness but if it's there and I've missed it I'd appreciate a heads' up. I always rather liked that part. :)
