Ok, first let me just say I'm sure Intrada did the best they could with what they got. But..
Having listened to this twice now, I'm a bit baffled, especially as to why no one's brought this up. All the source music seems to have been recorded with the microphone so close to each instrument or something, but whatever the case, you have the piano on one channel and percussion on another (for example). This creates a quite disconcerting listen when listening with headphones. I assume this was how it was recorded, rather than some sort of strange mixing choice. Plus there seems to be a variance of sound quality in the score itself, even in the same cue, though were this the only issues it wouldn't be a big deal. The description says "mint condition tapes" were used, but I can't imagine it's just my copy. All told, as wonderful as the music is, this so-called "optimum listening experience" is hardly that. I'm sure some will say "shut up and enjoy what you have!" but it's quite frustrating to pay $20 for something and have it be more bothersome than enjoyable to listen to. And one might note that none of the samples are of the problematic source tracks.
I guess it's good that this sold out and I should be able to make my money back...but I really really want to love this disc. The music is great.
Sigh.
