INTRADA Announces Vince DiCola's ROCKY IV

I compared both the "War" versions from the original Rocky IV soundtrack (the soundtrack with the rock music songs) and the recently released Vince DiCola Rocky IV score, and the soundtrack from 1986 retains this extra synth that seems to be "missing" in the 2010 score release. Perhaps something was lost in translation? I respectfully disagree that it is the exact same music. Regarding instrumentation: The version of "War" that was released on the original soundtrack sounds more like the film version than the version of "War" that was recently released on the score. I must have watched the movie about a 100 times, and I knew instantly that something was different on "War" on the 2010 score.
Of course I am happy that the score is finally released. I'll take it. I thought this wouldn't happen until I was an old man, and I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. But I wish it would be looked into a bit more regarding the "War" track, because it is obvious that something is different. It would be great if it could be pinpointed what is different (missing synth?), and I would gladly buy a separate single release of "War" available from any music service, if it was to be put out this way.

I would think that the Intrada War track could be the original version submitted by DiCola...
...and the missing synth overlay was a last minute choice by Stallone when doing the sound mix on the movie back in 85'.

I could be wrong.

The track does'nt have the same punch, but it does'nt bother me that much.
I'm overly happy that Intrada released this score, it's been a long wait. :mrgreen:

How many copies have been sold? Lots.

For people wondering about the songs we remind them that those are still available on another label and were not available for licensing to us. But we weren't trying to re-create the song album. The songs have had their day. We were interested in spotlighting Di Cola's part, which until now had been relegated to just a brief portion of the song album. The "War" sequence is the same recording but given a new digital mix. We did not attempt to duplicate some edits and effects that were made by the film mixers and dubbers during post production of the movie and chose instead to release what Di Cola himself had composed and prepared.

It was a joy to have all of the instrumental scoring cues survive all these years in all of their original multi-channel glory... just waiting for Vince Di Cola and us to come along and release them to ROCKY fans everywhere.
