A topic right up my alley!! Here are a few quintessential (for me) scores from my 80s childhood:



My dad took me to see this when I was... well, probably a bit too young, but nonetheless, the music made a permanent impression on me. We later acquired the movie on Beta(!) and I nearly wore it out just to hear the main march. And what a march! (The "Graduation March" isn't half bad either.) Despite all of his prior successes and classic scores, this score served as my introduction to the music of Elmer Bernstein. I was thrilled to death when Varese finally released it officially on CD. It still remains a favorite.



One of the first two scores I owned on cassette. Fond memories of playing basketball during my freshman and sophomore years to the strains of Goldsmith's fantastic score! Great warm-up music, though it never really helped our teams - we were beyond help. The CD still gets a spin every couple of months or so. Well-deserving of an expanded release to fill in the upwards of 18 minutes of missing music.



The second of the first two scores I owned on cassette. Watched the film in school and for some reason, it struck a chord (no pun intended) with me. Admittedly, it's not a CD I re-visit very often, but I always enjoy it when I do.

As I was born in 1981, the majority of the movies I enjoyed at the time came near the end of the decade, and of course being 7 at the time of release, one movie trumped everything in life:



There isn't much to say about it or its signature score. We all know it.

Yeah this movie had a real impact on all of us, the final apothesis of the 80's... It still remains the best Batman movie and score ever !
