I think a lot of people on the FSM board are just annoyed that it's not SPARTACUS, having talked themselves into believing that's what it was.

Some people are just jumping on Thor because he's Thor.

The STAR TREK argument seems to fall into two sections: [1] why didn't they do it this way in the first place? (Answer: perceived returns vs financial outlay.) [2] It's only been a year. Well, it's really not that different to vanilla DVD releases followed a year later by special editions with Making Of featurettes and outtakes and commentaries. I'm not convinced that this will spell the end of album presentations and I don't believe that C+C releases will become the norm. STAR TREK is a special case.

But it should be noted that this moronicism takes place in the shadow of a new release, the sunrise of a new way of listening to this score; a score that our beloved comrades Robert Townson and Michael Giacchino gave their time and effort to protect and nourish. They did not feel this release a vain or empty one, and we will not debate their profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of this music, I can only say this: of all the scores I have encountered in my travels, this was one of the the most… human.

Swashbuckler nailed it, but allow me to add:

I don't have words for what is going on on the FSM board.

I'm not sure if I should buy this release. I've seen the film but don't know the music outside from the film. What do you think, is this release the money worth? Should I buy it before it sells out?

I think it's definitely worth the upgrade. There's a lot more variety and thematic development in the complete score, particularly surrounding the character of Nero.

I have no problem in storing the boxset with my other Giacchino's CDs and the design of the set is simply beautiful, it's a magnificent piece of collection ! The music is, of course, stellar ! The music seems so much better in its complete form than it was on a single short CD... It just felt... incomplete !

I'm pretty excited about this one. I'm not one to spank other label's decisions since I know the challenges they face in trying to please niche audiences. That said, I do wish they had either packaged this in a standard-size jewel box (be it slimline or double CD) so it would sit comfortably on my CD shelves --- or --- in a DVD or Blu-ray package so I could file it with those. The book included inside doesn't seem to require this unique size. But that's just my wacky collector side talking. My rational producer side says they must have had their reasons. It's certainly a spectacular release otherwise!
