Frankly, the thread on FSM is so long that I have little desire to wade through it to find the salient points, which I am sure probably boil down to personal taste or some disagreement over the faithfulness of the re-recording to the initial performance. It seems like every re-recording released has a thread like this, although the participants do change from time to time. Plus, I am positive that it either has or will degenerate into personality conflict rather than on point debate.
I don't have the recording so I can't comment on it and I probably wouldn't be able or want to anyway, but in my view how faithful it is matters very little compared to how it works as a recording. Based on past works, I would be very surprised if it wasn't a fine and accomplished recording.
I hope to find out for myself one day, but there are just too many releases for me to keep up with and this one will have to wait until funds appear.
The main reason I am chiming in at all, is to let the folks (MMM, Intrada, Tadlow, etc) that take these risks and record film music for a small group of fans that whether any particular project works for any particular one of us or whether we might make a different choice(s) many, many of us do appreciate the hard work that you do. Believe in your vision and as long as we can feel the passion of your work you have succeeded. If you lead, some will follow.
