THE MAN IN HALF MOON STREET: GREAT FILM MUSIC BY MIKLOS ROZSA

In the 1970s, music from some of Rózsa’s older films were granted new life—by Charles Gerhardt (in his legendary RCA “Classic Film Scores” series) and by three albums of suites recorded for Polydor Records with the composer conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This new Intrada Excalibur CD extends that legacy by offering premiere recordings of music from two films which are virtually unknown today (Jacaré and The Man in Half Moon Street), the first modern recording of music from The Strange Love of Martha Ivers, a suite from Rózsa’s early WWII drama Sahara and a composer-created suite from Valley of the Kings (commissioned by Intrada producer Douglass Fake) which would have been included on a fourth Polydor collection if plans for it had ever materialized.

Allan Wilson conducts the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in a faithful, spirited concert of some of Rozsa's finest work produced by Kevin Kaska and executive producer Paul Talkington. A generous 20+ minute suite the obscure noir film The Man in Half Moon Street headlines. The entire program consists of:

A question for Doug from a devoted customer: Of course, I am thrilled to get this rare re-recording of THE MAN IN HALF MOON STREET, and a "taste" of SAHARA, but does this mean there is no hope of Intrada ever doing a complete SAHARA in the not too distant future ? Can we possibly have more Rozsa re-recordings more often than every 2 years ? Oops , that's more than one question. You know time waits for no man. That includes record producer as well as customer. Anyway, thanks for this surprise release and all that you have given us over the years.

Yes indeed ! Extended versions of BRUTE FORCE and SAHARA would make a F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C release on a single release whether one disc or two. GO FOR IT !

Thank you, Doug for keeping hope alive. No other composer, other than Miklos Rozsa,grabs my mind and ears like Miklos Rozsa. Listening to his music is a journey into another world.

I went through the roof when I saw this announced on Facebook. I'm always eager for more Rózsa, and I'm a huge fan of his Polydor LPs, which I feel are excellent companions to Charles Gerhardt's albums (someday…?). I love the idea of continuing that concept, it gives a nice breadth to what's here.

As for more recordings of his film noir work… YES, PLEASE!!!

Out of curiosity, did you guys know Chandos was recording a Sahara suite when you did this? And is it the same suite or not?

Nonetheless, I of course put this immediately on my "to buy" list.

Just got home from Belfast a few hours ago (where we had attended the excellent Patrick Doyle concert last night), couldn't wait to order the The Man In Half Moon Street CD and to see what other music was on it!!! What a great release, thanks Intrada!

Great news about the film-noir ambitions. If a really decent suite of music from "Desert Fury" is ever attempted -- and I sure don't mean some 10-minute suite -- I'd be tickled to kick in a few thousand to help in some modest way with the project.

THE MAN IN HALF MOON STREET is terrific; especially cue # 7 titled Transformation. While I am here extolling this release,let me put in a plug for a re-recording of BLOOD ON THE SUN. What's available now on CD has been ravaged by time. I am sure this would fit into Doug's desire for Rozsa-noir allbeit with a wartime Asian sound.

I for one am delighted with a 47-minute CD (and a CD of suites! at that) - it's a great length for a single listening session, and really gives the chance for each element of music to shine.

If you love Rozsa, it's a must buy.

If you're interested in hearing less familiar Rozsa, it's a must buy.

If you want to support these highly speculative efforts to record this music for a tiny audience, it's a must buy.
