Several years ago I dreamt I was attending a film music discussion by Jerry Goldsmith, I drove around some one story residential neighborhood looking for a particular address and finally found it by way of a piece of cardboard nailed to a telephone pole with "Jerry Goldsmith" written on it with black marker, an arrow pointing that way. I parked my car, as I walked towards the place Goldsmith is walking down a sidewalk from the back yard, he was dressed in full tennis garb and held a tennis racket. "Is this where you're doing the discussion?" I asked... He said, "What! Oh yeah!", in a sort of annoyed, sharp, aggressive way. "So where the fuck is it at?" I asked. He pointed towards the back yard and said, "Back there!". So I opened the gate and entered the back yard, sat on one of a dozen or so lawn chairs that had been arranged for the occasion, I was the only person there. "So where the hell is everybody?", I asked myself.

Earlier today I had a dream that while poking through some junkstore vinyl I came across the Disneyland LP of Mary Poppins, the recording that any vinyl enthusiast has seen a brazillion time as it was mass marketed to the masses back in the day. I don't have this LP and have never had any interest in it, I picked this copy up for the hell of it only to find that it was autographed by the entire cast and crew of the film, Dick Van Dyke, Julie Andrews, Lionel Jeffreys (not sure if he is even in the film) and about a dozen other names including Barry DeVorzon along with an inscription in parentheses reading "composer uncredited".

This one goes back a few years...

I'm in a junkstore stooping down going through a box of LPs on the floor, I begin to find these really obscure recordings of music from different Clint Eastwood films, didn't know any of them existed: Play Misty For Me, The Beguiled, and a bunch of other stuff similar to my Coogan's Bluff LP that actually does exist. I sense a presence behind me, a shadowy figure, I look around and up, there stands Clint Eastwood towering over me, my impression is that he's pissed off because I found these recordings and he wants them. I ask him to autograph one of them, in the corner of one of the LPs in very, very tiny writing, he scribbles, "eastwood clint".

Only on a film music forum can these dreams be appreciated, to the rest of society, we're nuts.

I had a dream this fat little girl with an attitude kept trying to attack me. She said she was Joel Goldsmith's daughter. I kept shoving her to the ground and then offering to help her back up and telling her to just talk to me and not try to attack me. She brought a couple other angry people with her.

I ended up shoving her to the ground probably half a dozen times and she never could calm down.

Years ago I had this dream... Actor Brian Dennehy and I were walking side by side down a long, endless hallway, we both wore metal construction hats and carried black metal lunchboxes, in front of and behind us a number of guys dressed identically, metal construction hats and carrying black metal lunchboxes, walking in the same direction. We pass a doorway off to the side, it seemed to be some sort of a little store within the hallway where guys wearing construction hats and carrying lunchboxes were standing in line buying snacks, pop and what not... We catch a glimpse of a TV newscast, the two anchors were typical of the type you would see on a TV newscast, powder puffed faces and snap-on smiles... Brian Dennehy nudges me with his elbow and says out of the corner of his mouth in a low voice, "Don't trust those bastards!"

I can't say I've had any such dreams, nor can I remember many dreams at all.

I do remember having a dream once where somebody stole my car.

I'm in some dusty junkstore somewhere going through a pile of vinyl recordings, I begin finding all of these great soundtrack LPs that I could never afford in the resale music shops, $150.00, $200.00 stuff. Bernard Herrmann, Elmer Bernstein, Miklos Rozsa!!! Lots of really nice scarce vinyl, unbelievably happy in this dream, excited about all the buried treasure for fifty cents a platter... And then I awake and it was only a dream... Talk about a downer!

A couple years later almost the exact thing really did happen. Located a shitload of vinyl soundtrack LPs in someones basement, paid $1.50 each... Seventh Voyage Of Sinbad!!! A Time To Love And A Time To Die!!! The Roots Of Heaven!!! And about 30 others, stuff I had always salivated over in the resale vinyl stores across the country, in my hand, on the turntable and in my heart, for a buck and a half each.

I wish my dream memories were more specific here, but I have had plenty where I either 1) wrote something incredibly beautiful that I wanted to remember or B) finally found that one piece of music that I'd long forgotten. In both cases the bittersweet waking moment while the sound fades away in my head makes me want to go immediately back to sleep so I can re-enter that world of dream sound.

Yesterday I had a dream about being in a junkstore digging through some CD's, I find a massive three disc box set in a cracked and dirty case entitled "Bandolero! The Film Scores Of Jerry Goldsmith". It was an Intrada Special Collection package from 1999. What the hell is this I thought to myself. Inside was a thick booklet with photos and text . The last score on disc three was from a 1980 film starring Burt Lancaster titled "Henry".

Years ago, I did have a dream (something to do with a red car, I don't remember full details) that came with a full END CREDITS sequence.
