I'm actually quite liking this & looking forward to giving the full CD a spin.

It sounds a bit David Arnold-like

I like ALL the Bond scores from DR. NO to LICENCE TO KILL (including CASINO ROYALE [1967] and NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN),
plus also TOMORROW NEVER DIES to DIE ANOTHER DAY

GOLDENEYE = is a train wreck!

CASINO ROYALE (2006) = is rather "patchy"

QUANTUM OF SOLACE = 90% of it was awful "background noise"

Listened to this a couple of times.

Surprisingly non-traditional (in the James Bond sense), but it is such a small snippet.

I like it though, very much a Thomas Newman score to my ears.

RE: Casino Royale (Arnold). This is a very good score, IMHO, with a lot of the classic barry/bond style integrated in there, and a beautiful love theme.

This just in from VARIETY (minor spoiler), just the header. I did not read the whole preview, so I probably skipped the part regarding the score. But it seems we are in for a treat....moviewise.

"Putting the "intelligence" in MI5, "Skyfall" reps a smart, savvy and incredibly satisfying addition to the 007 oeuvre, one that places Judi Dench's M at the center of the action. It's taken 23 films and 50 years to get Bond's backstory, but the wait was worth it. In Sam Mendes' hands, the franchise comes full circle, revealing the three-film Daniel Craig cycle to be both prelude and coda to the entire series via a foxy chess move that puts these pics on par with Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy as best-case exemplars of what cinematic brands can achieve, resulting in a recipe for nothing short of world domination."


I'll be seeing the film on oct 23rd, in the morning, press screening. Can't wait.....

Holy Grails: PSYIII/ESC TO ATHENA/M'RAKER/WILD GEESE II/NIGHTGEN

Beautiful stuff, as always. I absolutely love Thomas Newman. Can't wait to hear it in full quality someday. One of my favorites was what he did for "The Salton Sea", and also, believe it or not "Finding Nemo". Crazy. I've been working in that vein myself, you should check it out!

Just saw SKYFALL this morning. The screening startet at 09.30 in the morning (CET).

First, the film is terrific! They had a very good script to work with. The cast is great incl. Javier Bardem. Great story. Very personal. It is not a very "Bondy" Bond movie. I always say that THE DARK KNIGHT is not necesseraly a BATMAN movie but a Crime/Gangster movie with Batman as the crime fighter. SKYFALL is (after my first viewing) a great Secret Agent Movie with Bond as the protector of M (no spoiler since this was in every press release so far). The seriousness of this film can be compared to FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE.

The Adele Song and the title sequence are among the best in Bond history. The Adele song is integrated only once into the score (as far as I could hear) in a scene where Bond arrives at a Chinese Gambling Site on water.

The score works great with the film. The Bond (the classic guitar part) theme can be heard once, in a cool little sequence. I fear that the score on CD will be just an OK listening experience. Far away from Barry classics and quite near the Arnold scores. At least in the context of the film. I haven't heard the score separately yet, maybe that impression will change.
