After many years of seeing the new generation of Bourne films (Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner)... and listening to their scores (which I do really like) by John Powell and James Newton Howard... I decided to take a trip back in time to the mini-series made in the late 80's... at least, listening to the score.
Yes, the Emmy-winning score by Laurence Rosenthal. Did he deserve that Emmy? Oh, most definitely, yes. The score is big, dramatic and exciting. Rich themes scattered throughout. The Intrada release of the score is first rate. Crisp recording. Hard to believe this was done so many years ago. Compelling music to say the least. Draws you in and never lets go.
Of course, this was in the very early days of Intrada. Because of THE BOURNE IDENTITY and the many titles that were released before, it made me a fan of Intrada for life. They could do no wrong. And now, so many years later, they are still releasing amazing scores. I will always be grateful and very thankful for what they do.
With their strong association with the composer, I am always looking forward to the next Intrada/Rosenthal release. I hope there is something coming up.
Laurence Rosenthal's THE BOURNE IDENTITY is a brilliant score.
