One original song from the 80s that I adore merely for its catchiness and pertinence to the film is the one from Lethal Weapon. Every verse is dead-on in explaining the life of the Riggs character.

Just one of many brilliant musical collaborations involving Michael Kamen.

Lonely Rider performed by Don Cherry from the Will Penny LP is another. Duel At Diablo performed by Ernie Sheldon. They're all great songs. I usually prefer instrumental music, most vocal stuff I just don't like, (anti-social in that way ). There are a few I really do like and they're usually film score related, Your Zowie Face from In Like Flint.

How could I forget Michael Bishop's performance of the theme song in Shy People, which was used for the end credits in the film but unfortunately omitted from the soundtrack album.

It holds a lot of emotional weight in the context of the film.
