Hi Gordon Pym
I also share your interest in the music of Ennio Morricone. I've been collecting his soundtracks for more than twenty years and have about 350 or so,.. I think.
Among those many, "The Mission", "I Promessi Sposi", and "El Greco" are my favourites too,... especially the second track from "El Greco", Invocation. When I listen to this piece of music, the power of Meastro Morricone's music just grabs me by the throat.
Other favourites of my are, "The Battle of Algiers" (1966), "La Monaca di Monza" (1969), "The Thing" (1982), "Tempo di Uccidere" (1989), "Hamlet" (1990), "Sostiene Pereira" (1995),.... and many more. I also enjoy his music for the tv series "Moses" (1975) and "Marco Polo" (1982) very much. But oh, that man composed so much brilliant music, it's difficult to name only a few.
I don't know if they are all still available, or where you can buy them best. As European, I do most of my Morricone shopping at soundtrackcorner.de, they have a great Morricone collection and aren't to expansive. I recently bought the Dagored 24cd box set, which was great fun. The plastic box container smelt like the 70's. (a nice bonus)
