Here's my Rio Conchos story.

In 1989, I didn't know the film or score. All I knew is if it was by John Barry or Jerry Goldsmith, I wanted it. So, when those guys at Movie Boulevard (or was it still Discount Soundtracks then?) told me it was coming, I reserved my copy. And got it. And played it to death.

Now, that CD was lost on a burglary round about 1995 or something. For some bizarre reason, I never got round to replacing it. I guess I had so much to replace and somehow this never got done. Until now. So, my replacement disc arrived today. And, only then did it hit me how many years ago that was now.

Gee, I'm getting old. I was 19 when I bought it first time. Now I'm 40.

It's a bit sad when it's your soundtrack CDs that remind you how old you are!!!!

Yeah know the feeling mate i`m the same age!rio conchos is one i want to get again ,as i traded fsm one some while back,so will prob get intrada one this time.

It's a good one. I listen to it several times a year.

Doesn't look a day over 20. Does that mean it can legally drink now?

Geez, that must have been a burglar with good taste!

My own RIO CONCHOS story is, it was the one and only time I've ever gotten to attend a recording session - the "invitation" was through a mutual friend from the U.S. named Tom, who had corresponded with Goldsmith and happened to have made a visit to London at the time. Actually, the day we were there was when JG was doing "The Artist Who Did Not Want To Paint". I'll never forget the recording engineer Bruce Botnick saying, "OK, take two, The Agony and the AGONY" after the first rehearsal.
Goldsmith himself lit a cigarette every time he returned to the little booth that we were standing in -Phew, it was stuffy enough before he lit up - but the joy was in seeing the man himself experiencing his own music so many years after he'd written it and realising how good it was. He knew. And I'm sure I heard him muttering, "This is like Vaughan Williams" when the music became sort of pastoral during the playback.

It was, and remains, a high point in the memory.

Funny. I just loaded it onto my new iPod yesterday. I had to buy another iPod since my 120GB couldn't hold my collection so I purchased a new 160GB model and reserve that one only
for film or classical music. The old 120 (actually not that old, only a year or so) is reserved for vocal music. I thought I had already loaded RIO CONCHOS into iTunes, but when I was organsing my playlists I noticed it missing. Terrific album with brill sound!
