Hey, guys; nothing technical in nature, but I was wondering if you could shed any light on the experience one, or both, of you had with putting this Christopher Young score out? It's one of his finest jazz scores, in my view, and the CD is a brilliantly well-crafted "album." I've always wanted to know a little something interesting on the background of this score. Anything at all?

I think besides Doug or Roger to ask this question is Christopher Young himself. I've gotten in touch with him many times over the years and he's truely a class act. One of the best composers around when it comes to his fans. It's funny because he signed my booklet for this CD himself not too long ago along with a few others. Just saw this topic. If it weren't for that pesky Predator making so much noise right now I might have time to "shed some light". On the other hand, the experience wasn't really any different than it was on our other projects we've done with Chris: He's just about the most "prepared" composer I've worked with, meaning he knows just what he wants to do with his albums, what concept he's aiming for, just what sequence he wants to present things, what cues he wants to use and all that stuff. From what I remember, NORMA JEAN & MARILYN wasn't any different. But that was awhile ago, too. Memories do tend to fade after awhile...

It's funny, the Young albums most people miss or don't like
(In Too Deep, Hider In The House, Norma Jean) are some of
my absolute favorites. Young did say in a fantastic multi-part
MUSIC FROM THE MOVIES retrospective of his work up to that
point (around '97 I believe it was), that if he had to 'give up'
any of his scores, he wouldn't miss Norma Jean & Marilyn.

Personally, I think it's just right - right length, tuneful, doesn't
wear it's welcome out, no crashing action cues to disturb, just
an all around great 'record'

I agree. I've always graciously endured Young's overcompensating personality. He's always been right in the front row for any requests or questions. He's a true gentleman, and a gifted mind.
