While browsing Intrada's soundtrack pages, I noticed that the wonderful FSM release of Logan's Run is still available, even though it's limited to 3000 copies and came out in 2002!

Not that I mind, but: anybody else finds that odd? I mean, some film score CDs sell like hotcakes -- not just those limited to 1000 copies -- whereas this one is still there. After six years!

I find this particularly strange since:
a) It's a Jerry Goldsmith score (Goldsmith being among the high profile composers)
b) I consider it among his absolute finest scores (that's, of course, just my opinion, but I'd definitely put it very high up on the list)
c) It's science fiction (these tend to sell above average, I guess)
d) It's remastered (much better sound than any previous release) and complete, with good liner notes. Can't expect a better release than that.
e) Stuff like Saturn 3, The Swarm, or even The Ballad of Cable Hogue has sold out already.

Maybe it's got to do with the fact that there were previous, although heavily truncated, releases of Logan's Run? Or maybe the score is not all that well received? Considering that "lesser" Goldsmith scores like Baby sold out so quickly, I really wonder about that.

I had it and traded it away and I am as big a Goldsmith fan as anybody.

Its just not that exciting a score. (plus the film isn't very well regarded either)
What can i tell 'ya?

Well, that's just the kind of thing I'm wondering about. To me, it's among Goldsmith's most interesting scores ever, but maybe I'm rather alone in this.

I will be forever grateful to Goldsmith's score to Logan's Run. When I first saw the film in the theater, I was blown away by the Main Title. I kept going back just to hear the music and I couldn't wait to get the soundtrack. At that point, I was a huge John Williams fan, but my fascination with Goldsmith's score convinced me to research this man. He has been my favorite composer ever since. The film may not be great shakes (it certainly hasn't aged well), but the music is terrific.

There are a great many wonderful early FSM releases that have yet to sell out; "Knights Of The Round Table"-"The Egyptian"-"Prince Valiant"-"The Comancheros" & lots more. It's not that long ago that "Rio Conchos" sold out.

Yes, I agree that there are a lot of great limited releases, by FSM or otherwise, that have not sold out (yet), but unlike Prince Valiant etc., Logan's Run is a 1970s Goldsmith scored science-fiction movie. The Egyptian or Knights of the Round Table are classic golden age scores by Newman, Herrmann, and Rozsa; I am not quite sure that these releases sell fewer copies than most other scores by these composers from that time period.

Yet, while Logan's Run may not have gone down as a crowning achievement in motion picture history, it's certainly entertaining in a corny sort of way and it sure is a better movie than, say Baby - Secret of a Lost Legend or The Swarm (though the latter is so bad, it's entertaining again).

It's not just you Nicolai, I'm with ya ;)

I VERY happily got this for my birthday in March '02, and love it. I prefer the original album on occasion, but the expansion is amazing (you must have the FSM issue which has even MORE liner notes that didn't fit in the book as well!).

I think that after the initial rush of 1500 who bought a copy, people forget about things....our society has a real short attention span, so if it doesn't sell out in a day, or isn't discussed constantly, people move on....somehow The Challenge and The Swarm did sell out, after a few years.....
