Empire Pictures' The Caller stars Malcolm McDowell and Madolyn Smith in an unusual psychological thriller. A young woman who lives alone in a remote cabin prepares for dinner, only to be interrupted by a man with car trouble knocking at her door. At first she is suspicious, but she relents and invites him in. The night is long and the tension thick, as the strangely charming visitor finds his way into the home and mind of the lonely, troubled woman. The erotic mood builds as undertones
of fear quietly begin to surface. Who are these two people and why are their destinies fated to cross? The night ticks slowly by, and the answer is not immediately clear. Eventually, their true relationship becomes horrifyingly clear, and The Caller reveals a mind-bending vision that strikes its final hour with a twisted note of surprise.
Veteran Empire composer Richard Band provides the score for The Caller. "Having scored From Beyond just a couple of years prior to this film, I really wanted to explore some musical ideas that I had begun with that score and take them further. While I did not actually use any themes from the previous film, I wrote in an atmospheric nature (like From Beyond), relying much more heavily on thematic content in The Caller." The result is a score that is a kindred spirit to From Beyond -- a score that feels suspenseful, lonely, melancholy, sweet, desperate and off-kilter.
