In Search of Peace chronicles the first two decades of Israel’s existence, offering new insights on the origins of the Middle East conflict. The film weaves together historical narrative, anecdotes and dramatic personal stories. Combining a rich tapestry of rare archival film and photos, In Search of Peace not only examines events in Israel, but their impact on many other places in the world as well—the Arab refugee camps, the General Assembly of the United Nations and from there to the world capitals of Moscow, Paris, London, Buenos Aires, Cairo and Washington D.C. The film offers a unique global perspective on one of the most important events of the Twentieth Century and one of the seminal events in the 3,500-year history of the Jewish People. This film was produced by the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Moriah films, a two-time Academy Award winner for Best Documentary Feature, Genocide (1981) and The Long Way Home (1997).
The film is also a further example of the continuing collaboration between director Richard Trank and composer Lee Holdridge. In their five films together, including I Have Never Forgotten You, Ever Again, and The Long Way Home, the pair have sought to expand understanding of the Jewish experience from WWII through present day, capturing the drama of world conflict, the unthinkable tragedy of the Holocaust and the unstinting spirit and sense of hope extending into the new millenium. For the score to In Search of Peace, Holdridge comments, "I intended In Search of Peace to play like a vast symphonic tone poem. I wanted to capture the drama of the stories being told in the film, the constant pull between the wars, the battles, the intrigue and the inspiration and the yearning for peace, tradition and a peaceful nation." Holdridge fuses his musical sensibilities—which he developed over several decades working in both narrative and documentary films—into a unique voice. CD producer Douglass Fake observes: “It’s Lee’s finest hour... or two hours, actually! I can’t say enough about the sheer power of this piece of music. In the center of CD 2 is a gorgeous sequence—the ‘Golda Suite’— that is built from five cues linked by her tender and emotional theme. It’s absolutely haunting and would make for a memorable, stand-alone concert piece.”
In Search of Peace features the complete score on 2-CDs and is limited to 1000 copies.
