PLANET OF THE APES - Television Series
Composed and Conducted by Lalo Schifrin
Episode "The Legacy" composed by Earle Hagen
INTRADA Special Collection Volume 25
On September 13, 1974, the Planet of the Apes TV series was launched as
a follow on to the hit series of theatrical films. The program's run
was a short one, with the last episode airing a mere 3 months later.
The series starred Ron Harper and James Naughton as the marooned
astronauts, with Roddy McDowall providing continuity between the films
and the TV series.
For the TV show, music supervisor Lionel Newman brought in Lalo Schifrin
as the primary composer, who ran with Jerry Goldsmith's agressive,
primal approach from the first film. Schifrin scored the main title, as
well as the episodes "Escape from Tomorrow," "Gladiators," and "The Good
Seeds," and this CD release features all of Schifrin's episodes.
Additionally, Earle Hagen's score for "The Legacy" is included. Liner
notes are by Eric Greene, author of "Planet of the Apes as American
Myth: Race, Politics and Popular Culture."
This edition is limited to 3000 copies.
