SILVERADO

Columbia Pictures' 1985 spirited western SILVERADO stars Kevin Kline,
Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, and Danny Glover as four unwitting heroes
who cross paths on their journey to the sleepy town of Silverado.
Silverado -- a town run by a corrupt sheriff and murderous posse. A town
that won't remain sleepy for long. Writer/Director Lawrence Kasdan
(Raiders of the Lost Ark, Body Heat) said that he wanted to make a
western for a generation that had never seen a Western, and he threw in
all of the big set pieces you'd expect to see---and hear.
Bruce Broughton's music for SILVERADO broke important ground by defying
the then-customary tradition of scoring westerns with minimalist ideas,
the sound of banjos and guitars, whistles and whip-snaps, popular folk
tunes and other then-trendy western trademarks. Using a full-blooded
symphony orchestra, Broughton literally lifts the larger-than-life story
into epic status. In balance with his robust and now-famous main theme,
Broughton also introduced a ferocity to the action music not previously
known to the horse opera. The two elements combined in such striking
manner that Broughton's work received an Academy Award nomination. For
this release, Intrada has used the original 24-track session masters for
the first time, working with the composer and original studio session
engineers to mix and edit this premiere presentation of the complete
score. This 2-CD set offers over a half hour of previously unreleased
music with state-of-the-art sound. All-new packaging and liner notes
from the composer add a finishing touch.
