INTRADA Announces:
MAJOR DUNDEE - The Extended Version
Composed, Orchestrated and Conducted by CHRISTOPHER CALIENDO
INTRADA Signature Edition ISE1007
MAJOR DUNDEE (1965) was Sam Peckinpah's first large scale, big-budget
feature, telling the story of Amos Dundee (Charlton Heston), an
oppressive Union Army officer, who leads a troop of Army regulars,
Confederate prisoners, and scouts on a brutal mission into Mexico to
destroy a band of Apaches who have abducted children and terrorized the
countryside.
This dark tale was edited for its initial release without Peckinpah's
consent or involvement, and he disowned he film. Forty years later,
Columbia Pictures restored most of the missing footage and reissued the
film as "The Extended Version" with a new 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack.
In a rare instance of film restoration, Columbia Pictures commissioned a
new score by newcomer Christopher Caliendo.
In place of the traditional score by Daniele Amphitheatrof, Caliendo
takes a multi-pronged approach, spotting the film with an aggressive
theme to match Dundee's arrogant, brutal mein, and employing more ethnic
instrumentation for local color and delicacy.
This release is limited to 1000 copies.
