Our latest featured title on sale, On The Waterfront, has much in common with our current world premiere new release, The Caine Mutiny. Both soundtracks underscore multi Oscar-nominated films. The nominations for each included not only Best Actor and Best Picture nods but nominations for Best Original Score as well. Both hail from 1954 and both were released by Columbia Pictures. In fact, it’s fun to note that Marlon Brando had lost the prestigious Best Actor Academy Award in 1951 to Humphrey Bogart when his performance in A Streetcar Named Desire lost the honor to The African Queen, but in 1954, Brando came back and took the prize away from Bogart for his legendary work in the landmark On The Waterfront. The Caine Mutiny by Max Steiner and On The Waterfront by Leonard Bernstein both belong in any film music library. No question about it.
