I certainly knew the original Twilight Zone series, and the episode scores. I was a babe when the series premiered but the celebrated show and music therein has been around ever since on various video and audio formats and remains within easy reach. But I didn’t catch the 1985 revival of the show, with new episodes and scores back in the day. So my introduction to most of the music was during the production of our 3-CD set. I knew years ago about some of the contributions by Craig Safan, Chris Young and Basil Poledouris from various conversations over time but just hadn’t checked out much more than that.
In a fun anecdote tying this all in with Intrada’s origins… note a couple of things in common here. We launched our first Intrada release in August of 1985. And that release, Red Dawn, featured a score by Basil Poledouris. And when we were editing and mastering the album at MGM, with Basil in attendance, he made a point of mentioning upcoming projects would include some “TV stuff like maybe a new version of Twilight Zone and shows like that.”
It only took 30-odd years to get his Twilight Zone music out on CD, the same 30-odd years after releasing our debut album. And the set offers great music by Craig and Chris and several other noteworthy composers. 30-odd years to get this stuff out… and worth the effort. Proof positive that music like this really does last forever.
