Everything about this last Saturday seemed like a dream. Intrada celebrated its 30th anniversary in the Founders Room at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The venue itself was simply spectacular! I visited with numerous composers, industry personnel, my favorite record label execs, authors and many other supporters of film music. The food was terrific. (I missed the desserts!) Our "Nailing The Moment" video presentation went beautifully, with precious moments ranging from Rozsa to Poledouris, from Goldsmith to Tiomkin, from Broughton to Holdridge, from Horner to Herrmann. The highlight of the event for me: Having Mary Ann step up to the mic and recall her memories of the two of us starting Intrada, then introducing me by way of Bruce Broughton, who also said very kind words about our friendship before turning the mic over to me. I'm not a public speaker. After their memories, giving a speech was one of the toughest tasks I can recall doing. Yes, even tougher than convincing Jerry Goldsmith to let us put the Main Title on our Night Crossing album. No joke.
Yes, the afternoon seemed like a dream. A dream come true. Every one of the Intrada hamsters were present and participated in the planning of this memorable party. I simply must single out Regina, though, who was truly the wizard behind the curtain, pulling most of the strings. Arranging the actual event at Disney, the food and beverage selection, the invitations and decor, the video system and the mic, the music that played throughout, all sorts of myriad details going right down to the logo-imprinted stress balls in the gift bags - yep, it was Regina's vision that ruled the day. It made her dad proud. And it surely put Intrada's best face forward for the afternoon.
Speaking of which, should anyone who attended the party have any followup questions, please feel free to email Regina. Happily, I can just ask her when we're at dinner.
I'm still humbled by the events of the day. I thank everyone who joined us. In fact, I sincerely thank everyone in the soundtrack community who helps us all make this world a better place.
