9/5/08 We have two new CDs due for release this coming Tuesday, September 9. The appeal should swing pretty wide for soundtrack fans - though unpredictable is a word that pops into mind when I think of us soundtrack fans. Anyway, one'll appeal to listeners convinced that film music didn't start until STAR WARS and one'll appeal to listeners who think film music ended long before that. I'll be optimistic and look for some crossover. At the very least, our "oldie" is so good I hope the post-STAR WARS crowd will check it out. But it's a favorite of mine (and at least one of our long-time customers) so I'm a little biased. In fairness, the newer one's pretty cool, too. Check out our website Monday evening to get the titles, sound samples and other relevant details. Happy listening. 9/16/08 Here's an observation. It's not profound, it's just kind of cool. BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA, our first limited Jerry Fielding release lasted awhile. His subsequent releases started finding an audience, sales went upwards and his last CD sold out in less than a week. What a cool trend! So here comes Hugo Friedhofer. We started with THE BARBARIAN AND THE GEISHA, which lasted awhile. Subsequent releases found an audience and last week's BOY ON A DOLPHIN sold out in less than a week. Another cool trend! Two of my favorite composers. It's fun to think we helped build their audiences. Maybe we should start building an audience for Jerry Goldsmith since he hasn't quite caught on yet. (Wink wink.) 9/23/08 Hang on. The hamsters are grinding their wheels as fast as they can. And (as Jeff just said moments ago) there are little pellets everywhere! Goldsmith and Band. THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL and GHOST WARRIOR. Coincidentally, both scores ranked as personal favorites for each composer. The latter is sold out already. Regarding the Goldsmith. Our license allows 5000. We pressed an initial run of 3000 with the remaining 2000 due in just a few days. The first batch is nearly gone already but please don't panic. There'll just be a brief delay between the two batches. So there will still be enough to go around. As Jeff points out, it won't matter anyway. Given the workload, it'll take several days to get all the orders processed anyway! 9/27/08 The movie world just seems a lot smaller right now with the death yesterday of Paul Newman. At 83, he finally lost a long battle with cancer. In footnote, he played a minor character called "The Battler" way back in 1962 for HEMINGWAY'S ADVENTURES OF A YOUNG MAN and in his one short sequence - big surprise - he stole the picture. Anyway, it's difficult to think about him and not recall all those incredible roles he filled, both on screen and off - to say nothing of the legendary directors he worked with, the legendary composers who scored his films and so on. It's a body of work that'll last forever. Paul Newman was timeless. |
