As I've never heard the original Mercury LP from the mid-60's, I don't know if the vinyl program reflects Raksin's intentions (as heard in the movie), or whether it has been "popularized" for a mainstream record-buying audience. In any case this has never been issued on CD. It might make an attractive pairing with another mid-60's title (also not available on CD), MISTER BUDDWING by Kenyon Hopkins. (Both would hopefully be available from Universal Music Special Products.)

On the old Mercury LP almost nothing from RaksinĀ“s dramatic symphonic underscore for SYLVIA can be heard. Therefore it is rather disappointing as it contains for the most part only source music tracks heard in nightclubs or on the radio (plus a few tracks from the jazzy TOO LATE BLUES). So yes, the album (which was produced by Quincy Jones) was "popularized" - as it was often done during the mid-60s - for those people interested more in "easy listening" music.
Not even the Main Title version of the film which is sung by Paul Anka is on the LP.
A premiere release of the original score by Raksin as heard in the film would of course be very welcome. But does Paramount still have the original tapes?
