As with all the movies which Delerue scored for Fred Zinnemann, one wonders if any (or most?) of the dramatic music went unused. (While there is more "dramatic" scoring in this than either A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS or THE DAY OF THE JACKAL, the difference is only marginal.) In spite of its brevity, the two main themes which are the core of the Oscar-nominated score, are among the most beautiful and poignant ever penned by the composer. Even adding the "source" music (which helped fill out one side of a 1983 DRG LP and an earlier Japanese LP entitled JULIA AND OTHER GREAT WORKS BY GEORGES DELERUE) leaves a fair amount of playing time on a CD to be filled: maybe we could have a remastering of another 20th Century-Fox title, A WALK WITH LOVE AND DEATH? (I'd also have suggested RAPTURE and/or THE PICK-UP ARTIST but Kritzerland re-issued both a few years back.)

Delerue's still got a few scores out there that have yet to be released. Julia is one of them along with A Man For All Seasons, Anne of the Thousand Days to name a couple more. Not sure why they haven't been given a proper release.
