Intrada Soundtrack Forum

Since the “Varese Sarabande” label is giving the “Looney Tunes: Back in Action” soundtrack a Deluxe treatment and that this year marks the 25th Anniversary of Space Jam, as well as the sequel “A New Legacy” coming out this summer, I’d love it if Space Jam’s soundtrack could be given a Remastered Expanded release.

Like maybe a 2 or 3-Disc set featuring James Newton Howard’s complete score on Disc 1, the Pop/R&B/Hip Hop songs featured in the movie on Disc 2 (with bonus songs that were also in the film but not on the original soundtrack release), and the Remixes, Radio Edits, & Instrumentals of the songs from their Single Releases that helped promote the film.

I think the best thing would be a primary focus on the complete score (with whatever unused or alternate material they can manage). If they decide to remaster the song album, that'd be fine, but I wouldn't imagine they would - is it wrong to think that's too mainstream for Intrada, FSM, LLL, etc?

As for JNH's work, there is definitely unreleased material, even taking into account the DVD isolated score (i.e. the full rendition of "What's Up, Doc?" during the Moron Mountain scene, or a missing portion in Alien Transformation). Even if it's only 15 more minutes of score, there have been releases of other scores that included around that much of unreleased material.

I understood it's mainly a money thing (what isn't?), and JNH is my second favorite film composer - the more scores released, the merrier! This one's just a sentimental grail for me - I credit this (and BTTF) for sparking my love for film scores.

This is a James Newton Howard score I would love to see released. And I did not know there was an isolated score on the Space Jam Special Edition DVD.

This score is such a beauty. Not only did JNH introduce Carl Stalling/Milt Franklyn’s composition techniques to modern audiences and first time Looney Tunes fans, this was part of a turning point where it led on to scoring films for animation like Dinosaur, Atlantis, and Treasure Planet for the Disney studio.

I would love if Warner Bros. was able to release the movie’s score and provide liner notes about each cue.

A cue list for the movie has been found from a list of sketches and orchestration names found on a USC Library archives website. This and many other Howard sketches, orchestrations, and breakdown sheets have been donated there.
