Intrada Soundtrack Forum

I know I’ve left this recommendation before, but I had to mention it one last time. As of today arachnophobia is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and DEFINITELY deserves a complete release. It’s got a loyal fan base just waiting for the unreleased music to surface, and I’d love to see intrada bring it justice. I’m not sure what the likely hood of it getting a release any time soon as (as I saw this recommended a few years back) but me and the countless other fans would be forever grateful . This film score is the reason I got into score, and it would’ve a dream come true to see a complete, and I hope intrada considers giving it a shot someday.

I love this score but was always dissapointed with the album missing the 'spider escaping the morgue' music and the final confrontation music (Shirley Walker expanding on the cellar theme composed by Jones, I believe).
Even the Poltergeist temp tracking in the finale works, I'd love a complete release.
The film mix of the main titles also sounds a bit different (additional flutes overlays?)

I know! I always loved the score for the mortuary scene. Well I just love the spider’s theme in general, but that cue in specific is one of my favorites. I also love the short cue that accompanies the Jennings going into the barn for the first time. I kills me that the “expanded” foreign release of the score skipped out on the full version of the “cellar” cue.

My (unconfirmed) theory on this is that the finale was not included because it was not composed by Trevor Jones but by Shirley Walker based on the short cellar track he wrote and using his spider theme.
Or maybe It is because it was recorded late in the game, after the album was assembled as the finale probably was the sequence that took more time in the editing room.
Or a little of both (Walker music + late scoring)...

Yeah, that would actually explain a lot. Even trevor’s bit was slightly altered for the film. There’s a thumping type rhythm (the same as what’s used in the shower scene) that’s layered over it and the end sounds a bit different the album version. I’m willing to bet that if it does get released, it will sound a fair bit different then what’s heard in the movie.

And Like you said, poltergeist defiantly influenced the score. When Ross throws the queen in the breaker, it sounds almost identical to when the mother is getting pulled up the wall at the end of poltergeist.
