While there will undoubtedly be a slew of re-issues from the Maestro's huge discography now that he has passed on, I thought I'd make a case for the music for this 1999 movie starring Ben Cross and Peter Weller. Anyone who's seen the DVD for this effort will appreciate Morricone's contribution. Considering that the material seems to bear some kinship with the better-known SECRET OF THE SAHARA, it's no surprise that it has elicited a likewise lyrical score with mystical overtones. While the soundtrack album (running just under an hour) was issued in Italy under the title I GUARDIANI DEL CIELO it's long out of print and hard to find. While this would seem to be a project for a European label, we mustn't forget the invaluable efforts of U.S. specialist labels who have brought back titles such as TREASURE OF THE FOUR CROWNS and THE FIVE-MAN ARMY. In the recent couple of years there's been a dearth of Morricone vintage re-issues, hopefully the floodgates may now be opened.
