The highest grossing animated film of 1985 which beat Disney (releasing their troubled flop, The Black Cauldron) was from the well known Canadian studio, Nelvana.
The soundtrack on vinyl LP was originally released that year by a defunct company called Kid Stuff Records from Hollywood, Florida)
The big draw was the songs from the picture by Carole King and John Sebastian. As well as one sequence by Walt Woodward and David Bird.
Only that was labeled. It is however, a story LP along with Mickey Rooney narrating and the Canadian voice actors supplying their roles. And most importantly, the late Patricia Cullen's (1951-1991) musical score. Recorded by a live orchestra and the use of the Yamaha DX-7 synthesizer and possibly her Oberheim OB-X which was used in Nelvana's 1983 film, Rock & Rule.

Surprising to hear this soundtrack in stereo sound. All video releases of the 1985 movie were released in mono audio. On Ebay, there is a 35mm print of this movie which has two optical Dolby Stereo tracks (unless the two tracks are dual channel mono).
You hear the songs and background music in stereo on the vinyl LP.
Because of the film's low budget, some of Cullen's cues were recycled to fit the mood of the scene.
Heard at 0:00 in the link is the DX7 patch STRG-CHIME which you hear in Elmer Bernstein's Ghostbusters score in the opening cue "The Library".
At 0:00, 12:56, 27:14, and 33:36 is a recurring leitmotif which Patricia Cullen composed to accomodate the Care Bears as heroic/with courage . Cullen was trained a pianist as well as having previous synthesizer experience prior to her Nelvana works, so you can expect some classical esque elements as well as some synthesizer presets/programming.
Typically most 1980s cartoons never have the background music released commercially.
Same for Rock & Rule, it was not released widespread, failed at box office, and did not get a proper soundtrack release despite a cult following for it.
For Rock & Rule, the original negative master was lost in a fire.
Surprising enough, the 1986 Care Bears TV Cartoon was first released with a new stereo remaster on VHS and DVD’s from around 2004. In that cartoon, she had used a DX7 synth, her analog synth (OB-X), and an E-MU Emulator II sampler
So far, there’s unknown whereabouts about the original master tapes for the movie’s score and songs.
Not just Cullen’s music, but of course the songs will hopefully get a new digital stereo remaster.
And with that 35mm print on EBay I mentioned, it should have the Samuel Goldwyn Company logo with the Care a Lot fanfare, and the credits with a blue background, instead of the current black one since MGM distributed the film since 2000.
Nelvana as of now no longer have the licensing rights to the Care Bears as the 80s incarnation (movies/TV) are own by Cloudco/American Greetings. This would apply to the soundtrack when checking the BMI and SOCAN Repertoire.
Cullen’s (affiliated with Canadian performing rights organization SOCAN) for Care Bears are published by Care Bears Music (BMI), which are now part of Warner Chapell (WARNER-TAMERLANE PUBLISHING CORP).
