Anyone who only knows this production from the DVD released by A&E in the U.S., may be frustrated to know that the original mini-series was almost twice as long (i.e. 3 hours long). Rosenthal's score must surely be truncated under the circumstances. The hour program released on CD by the Ariola label in Germany over 20 years ago, probably offers a more coherent account of the score. (This score has only been released in the U.S. as part of an anthology.) |
