It would be cost-prohibitive to expand this score because of the American Federation of Musicians agreement that they grant a waiver to allow a film score recorded before August 14, 2005 (August 14 was actually Horner's birthdate) without advance payment of their reuse fees. Avatar is four years too late.
Contrary to a somewhat popular belief, Avatar was NOT recorded in England. It was entirely recorded in California. The entire vocal ensemble and electronics were recorded in Calabasas, and the orchestra was recorded at Fox Studios' Newman scoring stage. It would simply cost too much money for any label to release an expanded album of the score, which is the most likely reason the digital-only "deluxe edition" release featured the Simon Franglen synth demos as bonus tracks, and not final finished cues.
