Right between cult hits Saw and Dead Silence, the mainstream successes of movies like Insidious and The Conjuring, James Wan directed the obscure crime drama Death Sentence in 2007. This movie, starring a grizzler-than-grizzled Kevin Bacon, detailed the revenge fueled journey of father Nick Hume after the loss of his firstborn son. It was based on the novel penned by the recently passed Brian Garfield and was, sadly and perhaps unjustly, a commercial flop. Like Dead Silence, the movie grew a cult fanbase eventually.

For the third and thus far last time in Wan's career, Charlie Clouser of Nine Inch Nails fame was called in to compose the musical score. Whereas his previous efforts with Saw and Dead Silence did receive (limited) soundtrack releases, Death Sentence wasn't as lucky. To this day, the score didn't get officially released, despite the material circling online. It might be time to see the score as a full CD release.
