If Miklos Rozsa Universal film noir scores were available to Intrada would they be eager to release them on CD ? Has Intrada lost interest in Miklos Rozsa in these changing times ? Would love to see the thoughts of Doug Fake and/or Roger Feigelson on this topic. |

Considering Intrada fairly recently displayed enough interest in Rozsa to release every single scrap of his music owned by Paramount, if they can get access to his Universal work I'm 100% positive they'll release it. I know there were some unauthorized Tony Thomas LPs of some of these Universal scores back in the 70s and early 80s, but apart from that is there any indication that Universal scores of this vintage do indeed still survive today? What's the earliest Universal score that's been released by the specialty labels? Yavar |

Mike Matessimo most likely knows if Rozsa film noir musical elements still exist in the Universal vault , but he is not saying. |

Maybe even if Universal doesn't have tapes, whatever tapes/acetates were used for the Tony Thomas LPs can be used again...or if they no longer exist, maybe even those LPs could be used as a source, and Chris Malone or some other audio wizard put on the job of making them sound as good as possible. These are great scores which deserve to be on CD even if the available sources aren't great. (see: FSM's great release of On Dangerous Ground, despite the variable sound quality on that.) Yavar |

The Tony Thomas LPs of THE KILLERS and BRUTE FORCE have already been used as a source for a bootleg CD more than 15 years ago. So the question for an official label nowadays is: If only this source exists, is it really rewarding to use it again as many of the Rozsa fans are of course already familiar with the Thomas LPs and the boot CD. And above all, if in addition you have to pay expensive licensing fees with Universal, any official label will think twice if they want to take the risk of using such a source. So they need a really good source for these scores - otherwise they won´t release them on CD. |
