Over the last few years we've been blessed with a number of scores for 1960's Otto Preminger films being re-issued, expanded and newly recorded (e.g. ADVISE AND CONSENT by Jerry Fielding, BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING by Paul Glass and HURRY SUNDOWN by Hugo Montenegro). Yet Moross' magnificent (even if brief) score for THE CARDINAL, as originally incarnated on RCA, hasn't been available here for some three decades. (Interestingly in Spain, RCA issued a slightly longer album, but the additional materials consists of less than 2 minutes of Mozart's "Alleluia" and a 5 minute medley called "The Cardinal Themes". This was re-issued on CD there in 1999, but I suspect it may have been mastered straight off the LP!) As excellent as Silva's re-recorded suite was, I'd still be hankering for a Sony remastering of the original album.
