Since there is more music on the original Columbia album than appeared in the film, there probably isn't much scope for an expanded edition. But as it's now almost 30 years since this classic score was issued, it would probably benefit from remastering (especially as some of the energy seems to have been filtered out during the original mix and mastering).

I personally do not see anything wrong with the original Columbia Records issue.

If you don't think that there have been huge audio advances in mastering since 1989, then I would suggest you listen to any Morricone soundtrack at that time which has been re-mastered. (Of course I know nothing of your playback system.)

Well, for me I do not like remastered 80's albums, etc. I had to replace a bunch of my 80's cds of remasters for the original issue. If I have a original release score album and out comes a remastered version of the same album...I rather keep my original album then to pay $26 for another copy...just because it was remastered. I personally don't like the remastering job on La La Land's Innerspace (score) and the deluxe edition of Gremlins 2: The New Batch...ehhh on both. I personally prefer the original analog transfer than to have some goof muck up the sound quality and add that awful reverb shit to it, etc.

You give some people champagne, and they'll still call it lemonade. I was just so taken aback with the above comments, I really don't know how to begin addressing them! I would love to know what sort of system the gentleman has. Apart from basically insulting Douglas and Roger and everyone involved in these remasterings, these remarks are so patently wrong, self-evidently so. For the gentleman to cite La-La Land's INNERSPACE is ridiculous, because it's not a remastering of the original Geffen album at all, but drawn from a different source. This is not a theoretical position, in almost all cases the remasterings are better. That's why the remasterings were done...not to manipulate you to spend money on them. CASUALTIES OF WAR is fine as it is? Nonsense. It can be improved, and I hope it is.
