Post subject:  The Wolves Of Willoughby Chase - Colin Towns - 1989

This is a score from one of those rare films that people (in the United States at least) struggle to recall if it was really a film they saw or a dream they simply had as a child since the film was so obscure. The Wolves Of Willoughby Chase is based on a classic book by Joan Aiken and is set in an alternative-history version of nineteenth century England where packs of wolves roam the countryside. The score is quite romantic in sound and classic in execution. You can hear many bits and pieces of it in this trailer:

Many people, such as myself, saw this on the Disney Channel in its early days, popping up briefly before completely disappearing as if it never existed. The film has never been released in any form in the United States, only on VHS and a Region B fullscreen DVD in the UK.

There was a CD released of this score in 1995 by Digital TER that was a good representation of the music, but I am pretty certain it is out of print. Here is a video of some selections from it:

However, for the few who have seen the film, there are actually some really good bits missing from it. A lot of it is tense/action material near the middle and the climax. It would be amazing if Intrada got a hold of this title and expanded upon its album release. It has a number of memorable themes, especially its main theme, that I am sure will connect with many fans of film scores.
